# Gear Leg and Intersection Fairings
## Builder Tech Support answers on gear leg and intersection fairings
This article collects Builder Technical Support answers on intersection fairings, including drawing mismatches, windshield fairing material choices, and wing intersection fairing screw specifications.
## Drawing mismatches (RV-8 DWG 73 vs DWG 85)
If two drawings appear to call for different fasteners at the same location — for example, DWG 73 showing a NA426AD3-5 rivet and DWG 85 showing a tapped hole for a screw — contact Builder Tech Support with the drawing numbers and revisions. In most cases, the more recent drawing takes precedence. In some cases both are correct, with the rivet and screw serving different purposes — one attaching the skin and the other attaching the fairing.
## Removable windshield fairing — metal vs. fiberglass
For the windshield fairing (such as on the RV-7 slider), builders are free to choose between fiberglass (the kit standard) and metal. Before fiberglass became the kit standard, metal was the only option. Use the material and construction method that suits your finish — no Van's Aircraft approval is required for this material choice.
## Wing intersection fairing screws
Flush screws for the RV-14 wing intersection fairing that attach to the bottom fuselage skin are called out in the plans. Substitute screws (different head style or length) are not recommended - the called-out screw is sized for the dimple depth and the fairing thickness.
